Folegandros Island, Greece

  The Folegandros isn't a large island, comprising just 32 km2 with a population of 600 inhabitants. The island has become more fascinating though it is an unaffected island in Greece yet. We like to name it the "island of Peace", because the simplicity and mesmerizing tranquility reign in the atmosphere.
  On the island there are three small villages: Karavostasi (the port), the Chora and Ano Meria connected by a paved road.

  The principal transport on the island is the bus. It will comfortably take you to the port, to the different nonpaved roads leading to the sandy plages or anywhere. Also you can take advantage of the little fishing launches that are always ready to depart you from the Karavostasi port to any beach of the island. Thirdly cars, motorcycles and bikes hire is at your disposal.

  The thing that instantly attracts the view is the infinite cluster of "dry-placed" walls. These walls, set on the sunlit flanks, were established by the inhabitants through the centuries as terraces for raising the cereals.

  The village of Cora is composed of three squares set in a row and is a closed area for the traffic of vehicles as cars and motorcycles. The little streets are planted with luxurious trees under which you can have a refreshing drink and feel the slight breeze imbued with the odor of the lime trees or the local bread. The flowering bougainvillea and hibiscus create a wonderful image on the Kastro (XIII century) wooden balconies.

  On the peak of the hill there is a nice church of Panaghia, which opens magnificent scenery of the Chora town and the island's western coast.

  Within about 1 km distance you can reach the wonderful beaches of Angali, Agios Nikolaos and the beach of Livadi with a nice camping. Around the port there are also some little beaches. It will take you from 40 to 90 min to get to other plages, including the Agios Georgios, which is on the north-east.

  You will get unmitigated pleasure having a nice promenade through this enchanting island as its nature, imbued with heady aroma and nice serenity, is just tantalizing. Especially the island is beautiful in the spring or in the early summer when it abounds in caper flowers, oregano and thyme, creating a colourful landscape.
