Built in 1924 by brothers Aaron and Isaac Sakkis, the "modern" hotel was designed by K. Kokoropoulos and A. Zachariadis, several of whose buildings in Thessaloniki have since been listed. After about 40 years in operation, the hotel eventually closed its doors in the 1960s.
In 1995 the building was listed as an historic monument by the Ministry of Culture, and three years later work began on plans for its reconstruction and restoration under the supervision and guidance of the 4th Ephorate of Modern Monuments in Thessaloniki.
The hotel was renamed as KINISSI PALACE, and on 30.08.2000 it once again began to welcome guests.
The restoration project was very carefully designed to respect and preserve the distinctive decorative features of the old building.
The KINISSI PALACE Hotel is a 1st Class establishment located in the heart of the city's business district (at the corner of Egnatia and Syngrou streets) with a total of 49 rooms and 3 suites. Fully sound-proofed and air conditioned, all rooms have either a balcony or a window, and all are fitted with direct telephone line, internet connection, mini bar, TV with land and satellite service, Pay-TV, hair drier and safe deposit box. Room service assured.
The ground floor coffee shop, which looks out onto the bustling thoroughfare of Egnatia Street, serves drinks and snacks (fresh and toasted sandwiches, country-style pies, bougatsa, sweets, ice cream) from 07.00 in the morning until very late at night.
"AVEROF" restaurant, which had been closed since 1978, has now re-opened on the ground floor of the hotel.
Faithful to its tradition of specialising in traditional Greek cuisine, the "AVEROF" serves lunches and dinners based on fresh, natural, local Macedonian organic products, supplied by "Alali".
Open from 07.00 to 10.30, the "VASILIS" breakfast room on the mezzanine level offers a lavish breakfast buffet including a number of traditional Greek breakfast favourites: bougatsa (a cream-filled pastry), koulouri (a soft bread stick with sesame seeds), trahana (a kind of pasta made from flour and yoghurt) dotted with croutons of bread and cheese, country-style pies, loukoumadhes (Greek-style donuts with honey syrup), tiganites (fritters), French toast, and home-made ("Alali" brand) jams.
Part of the ground floor has been devoted to facilities providing the comfort and relaxation our guests may need at the end of a hard or tiring day. Two Turkish baths, two saunas, a small hydro-massage pool, a solarium and a massage parlour are at the service of hotel guests from 15.00 till midnight.
A place for business meetings for 6-8 people, equipped with telephones, fax, Internet, PC and TV.
