Milos it’s one of the Cycladic islands which is located in southeastern part of Greece, in the Aegean Sea. It has seven towns: Plaka, Pera. Triovassalos, Tripit, Plakes, Pollonia, Adamas. This Island is well known by its geological futures ( I will be exact - there are many interesting rock formations along the south cost of Melos.) In tourist guides it’s advertised as “the island of catacomb” or “the island of Venus”, but in real life it’s an excellent island of colours where the steaming volcanoes and mountains combine with beautiful beach, fields & clear waters. There are more than 70 beaches & each of them differs from another by its own beauty.

The main advantages of this island are catacombs and ancient sculpture of Venus & Poseidon. During the time of Early Church christians used the deserted stone quarries for interment of coreligionists. There, in the depth of stone –pit were hacked out tombs and were put urns with ashes of them who was died. Thus well- known catacombs appeared in Rome and other places including Milos Island. Catacombs of Melos are simultaneously the most interesting historical monument on island and a Christian place of pilgrimage. Conceding to its own sizes to extensive labyrinthes of the Roman catacombs, catacombs are constructed by the same principle and are not less ancient, than Roman (II century). Melos catacombs consist of three basic corridors with insignificant branches. Tombs are located on both parties of a corridor and decorated by a vegetative ornament and allegorical stages.
The famous sculpture of Aphrodite (Goddess of Love) was brought out from this Island and is displayed now in Louver & imposing monument of Poseidon which is displayed in the National Museum of Athens.

I cruised around this island and it took me 9 hours to come it round - amazing landscapes surrounding the Melos Island are really impressive.

I will always remember these islands by its geological contrasts & multicoloured natural gamma. Only here you will feel a calm atmosphere looking at unforgettable sunset. You will enjoy memorable vacation if you will visit Melos island.
