Sifnos is an island with beautiful beaches, churches and monasteries. According to mythology, the island got its name from its first settler, Sifnos, who was the son of the hero Sounio.
The wonderful beaches of Sifnos are famous in Greece for their fine sands; beaches of Sifnos attract a lot of tourists, willing to enjoy the sun and the caressing blue warm waters of the sea. Beaches boast, eye pleasing views, created by the primeval nature that is so much typical for the landscapes of this place. All these little houses are built close one another, surrounded by narrow, whitewashed streets and stone courtyards. It imparts to Sifnos a typical Cycladic character that charms everyone arriving to Greece. The marvelous beaches and the extremely night life make Sifnos the ideal place also for those who wish to combine relaxation and entertainment.
There are islands Kastro, Appollonia, Kamares, Vathi, Heronissos.
The ancient Greek titled the capital of Sifnos after the name of this island's patron God, Appollonia. The city has an art museum, dedicated to this God. The island consists of several parts, the oldest one is called Artemonas, it is supposed that a temple of Artemis - Greek goddess, leader of viragos and mistress of animals - was erected here. In the old capital that is called Kastro, there is a small museum of archeology.
Sifnos has been inhabited since 3000 BC. It lies in the middle of the Cyclades islands between Serifos, Kimolos and Antiparos. In ancient times it was very wealthy because of its gold and silver mines. In 1207, the Venetian Marco Sanudo conquered Sifnos and it was incorporated into the Duchy of Naxos. In 1537, it was conquered by the Turks. It played its part in the struggle for liberty in 1821 and was united with Greece in 1832.
The Eastern half of Sifnos is full of rich olive groves and almond trees, oleanders in the numerous valleys, beautiful deserted beaches, whitewashed little Cycladic houses, whitewashed chapels and little churches. Rafaletos Apartments are situated in the old picturesque Kastro town on the island of Sifnos.
All rooms/studios have coffee pots, toasters, irons, hair-driers, air conditions except Konaki room type. There are ventilators instead of air conditioner.
The owner has a safe and a washing machine, 10 Euro for every laundering. No pets please.
